Another book which may be useful for the medical staff looking after you is : Genetic Instabilities and Neurological Disease,
second
edition Hardbound, ISBN: 0-12-369462-0, 784 pages,
Edited By Robert D. Wells and Tetsuo Ashizawa.publication date:
2006 ACADEMIC PRESS
http://books.elsevier.com/bookscat/links/details.asp?isbn=0123694620
This book includes sections on both DM1 and DM2. Ralf Krahe, Bjarne Udd
& Linda L. Bachinski have co-authored a chapter on Myotonic
Dystrophy Type 2: Clinical and Genetic Aspects in the revised edition of
this book. It is the first book written for medical
professionals which has any detailed information on DM2 despite this
disease being in the medical literature since 1994.
"This book describes everything about DNA repeat instability and
neurological disorders, covering molecular mechanisms of repeat expansion,
pathogenic mechanisms, clinical phenotype, parental gender effects,
genotype-phenotype correlation, and diagnostic applications of the
molecular data. The intended audience includes neurologists,
neuroscientists, biochemists, geneticists, biophysicists, cell biologists,
molecular biologists, human geneticists, pathologists, cancer researchers,
tumour biologists, researchers developing standards for disease analysis,
and patient advocacy groups." Our needs as
patients, regardless of which form of the disease we have, will
be better understood and met as the medical community becomes more aware
of the tremendous strides being made by the research community in the
study of myotonic dystrophy.
