Inheritance

Myotonic Dystrophy is a genetic disease and so can be inherited by the child of an affected person. It runs in families.

As described in Chapter One of the tutorial the disease is caused by the expansion of a block of CTG repeats in the Myotonic Dystrophy gene.

If the child of an affected individual inherits this mutation in the DNA from their parent they will be affected by Myotonic Dystrophy.
